Who will take care of us ?

There are thousands of destitute elders who do not even have access to two square meals and the means to meet their basic needs. Monthly rations of wheat, rice, pulses, cooking oil and basic spices are provided along with daily use items such as detergent, soap, clothing and some pocket money is provided to elders in need. Under this program monetary support is often given to needy elders living in old age homes.

The ration not only provides these elders much needed sustenance, but also makes them self-reliant, as they don’t have to beg or depend on anyone anymore. this program has gained much recognition with our donors and elders alike. It is implemented through local project partners, who help identify destitute elders in neighbouring communities and Millennium India works with them providing these elders a life of sustenance & dignity.

CAUSES

1. OLD AGE HOMES

A roof over their heads is a critical need of the elder who are destitute, sick and abandoned by family and those uprooted by disasters. The Millennium India has established model homes for the senior citizens and aged in places of Mumbai in the West. The Millennium India supports 300 old age homes and runs 6 barrier homes for the aged in India.

2. LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT
The Millennium India mobilizes elders through the formation of Elder-Self-Help-Groups (ESHGs) that are centered on sustainable methods of income generation. These ESHGs are then federated into higher-level community institutions so that they gain additional robustness. This model of Millennium India supports 12 groups with 70 Elderly across 2 states in India, helping elders regain their dignity.

3. ADOPT A GRAN

Monthly rations of wheat, rice, pulses, cooking oil and basic spices are provided along with daily use items such as detergent, soap, clothing and some pocket money is provided to elders in need. Under this program monetary support is often given to needy elders living in old age homes.

Success Story

1. Nearby in diva ( thane) beside of a building from last two weeks an old lady just kept lying asking food from the people in the vicinity of age around 75 years.So we approached her for what might be the reason you have hit the streets and abondoned by her familyHer children does not look after her and hence she stays outside on the streets with the help of food she gets from asking or begging from the families.
   So our Team volunteers rescued her from there and asked to stay in the old age home.
   By going through some procedures like No objection certificate from nearby local police station we safely provided her a space in the old age home
   She stays in DMCT Hospital & Old Age Home , Mumbai
   Under care of Mr Jadhav.
